Soufflenheim

The route north out of Strasbourg this morning took us past the headquarters of the EU ( A parliament for most of Europe ) Beautiful but I’d hate to pay the window cleanerthe EV15 goes through a huge forest just out of the city. It’s already getting hot and so the shade was delicious. You never know when the route markers are going to disappear so I seized the chance to photograph the route to the end of the French section. The World Cup soccer is a really big deal over here. Expats flying their flags, little models like these….it’s good to have a beer with the locals and watch a bit as we’ve done for the last 3 nightsChristine contributes a few photos in each blog with her camera. It’s good because I sometimes bike straight past some pretty shots Ahh, lost the damn route markers again. If you get lost in NZ at least you don’t end up in another country. We backed up a couple of hundred metres and found them again. It’s getting tres tres chaud ( bloody hot ) 35c

We’re passing through lots of small towns but no sign of accomodation so I banged on the door of the Mairie in Sessenheim ( they close for 2 hours for lunch) and I was directed to a Chambre Dote in the next village ,Soufflenheim. What a lucky break !This town is famous in France for its pottery and there are Pottery makers and their shops everywhereThe special clay comes from a quarry in the forest nearby. There’s dozens of shops here, each like an art gallery. Our wonderful hosts Raymond and Richarde. That’s our flat at the back. then after a clean up we went for a beer and a meal at the Turkish pub. We’d poke fun at each other waiting for the game. As soon as you mention New Zealand someone would try to imitate a haka. I gave them a very brief one. Still hot at 8.30 !!. Finished a great day off with coffee and Schnapps on the deck. They make their own and it was niiice .🤪
