Two good reasons why I don’t like booking ahead. Our goal was Mannheim which according to NAVMI was 56kms away.
But this part of Germany has lots and lots of lakes formed by the quarries that are extracting the metal from what was once the river bed. By the time we’d been 65kms to Speyer , Mannheim was still 30kms away
DELICIOUS coffee and strudels at this old brickworks. By the time we had finished 7 ships had gone past
It never really warmed up today but I’d sooner have to put a jersey on than be sweating in 30plus degrees . 4 kms from Speyer we could see the Cathedral and this Jumbo jet ??
The trail took us right to it ! It looked too good to pass so I booked into the hotel next door. It’s only 1pm so we’ll have time to visit it today .
THE TECHNIK MUSEUM ! It’s the largest privately owned museum in Europe. I couldn’t believe my luck! You can climb inside all the large aircraft, the boats, the submarine, trains ! The 747 jumbo is so high up you can hop in a chute and slide down from it π²
You can go inside the Columbo space shuttle, that’s a space station beside it. There’s full sized replicas of the moon landing craft, we watched a short movie on the lunar landing in the huge IMAX theatre. The beauty of booking into the hotel next door is when your wife has reached her limit you can take her ‘home’ , and go back for more
they could have parked at least 6 of Prince Edwards Rolls in that Aeroflot .
Yep ! Blokes heaven π€©
oh , and the second good reason for not booking ahead? We would have had to miss it
