That was a very relaxing break in Lahnstein. Changed our hotel though as the first one wasn’t the best. Interesting history. The towns on each side of this river , Oberlahnstein and Neiderlahnstein were not joined together until fairly recently. Each in a different region they never got on . Neiderlahnstein didn’t have a proper sewage system and used to dump their boxes of ‘night soil’ into the river. For this reason they were called ‘pot shitters’ and this statue is to rub their noses in it, literally !
We had dinner with our friends Bernd and Gaby last night and this morning left our hotel and went around to their camper to collect them.
perfect biking today ! Gabby had bought some mid morning snacks along . They’re going to bike with us to Linz then return on the train.
Interesting spot ! When we stopped for our coffee break, we also needed to sample what Bernd assured us was the best Riesling on the Rhein. (He was right, delicious.) the hill on the right is part of a dormant volcano that 12,000 years ago blocked the Rhein and formed a huge lake. The river carved out a channel again over time

Its impossible to show how steep those vineyards are. Can you see the tiny workers way up on the top field. They need to wear parachutes in case they fall 🤥
LINZ. This town is gorgeous !
After lunch in the square we said goodbye to our friends, they were going to get back to Koblenz to watch Germany play Korea on the big screen
Home for the night . Lovely but no wifi so I’m sitting on a beer in the town square again, using the cafe’s wifi
