Oberhausen

The next city downstream of Düsseldorf is Duisburg. 10kms to the east of Duisburg on the Ruhr is Oberhausen and it’s there we want to go to see the Gasometer. A very famous centre of photography/art.NAVMII picked out the most direct bike route for us. Unfortunately mostly through built up areas but it’s Saturday morning and still fairly quiet.Ratingen is about half way. There’s still parts of the old town wall standing from the Middle Ages . There was a market going on

By Mulheim we were following the Ruhr. This restaurant was once a millWe share a bridge with a tram. Every city in Germany has a great tram system. New Zealand could learn an awful lot off them.It was only 38kms to Oberhausen but it seemed a lot further having to concentrate all the time on traffic and street crossings.

We booked in to our hotel by 2pm but we’ve decided to wait until tomorrow before going to see the Gasometer. We’re next to a mall so I’m happy to do some ‘people watching’Instead of throwing our coke bottle in the trash can, we gave it to the waitress and she gave me 25c .( 45cents nz) I did the same with my beer can and was even more surprised when I got the same ! What a great idea but I’m not going to sleep tonight , thinking about all the money I’ve thrown in a bin😩
