Velp !

The hotel Figi also doubles as the theatre ( 4 theatres in all) Comfortable but Noisey ! The NZ softball team stayed here last night (the black sox) They’re over here for the world champs and today is to be a practice match against Japan. Pity we couldn’t watch them play but it’s supposed to rain today so we’re going to take advantage of a strong tale wind and head for Arnhem .It’s Saturday , market day ,as we pass through Ede. We grab some breakfast here then eat on the run. We’ve declared today sheep day ! As there’s lots of lambs frolicking aboutIt’s a little known fact that black sheep eat less grass than white sheep .!We wiz across Ginkel Heath. A huge sandy park where deer and wild pigs can run across the road at any minute .( speed limit is only 60kms along here for that reason) On September 18th 1944 , British paratroopers made a huge landing here to secure the bridge over the Rhine at Arnhem But today is the annual ‘shear the Ginkel sheep’ day. Dozens of volunteers come to show off their sheep shearing skills ( or not)And many more come to offer advise and drink beerThis was a bit worrying! Arnhem was full?πŸ₯΅ but luckily the young lass at the info centre found us a bed in a BnB, 5 kms further along at the village of Velp. ” thank you for da Velp ma’am
