Wernigerode

We’ve been on the road for 8 days now so today’s going to be a rest day. Perhaps restful would be a better word…we only want to get to Wernigerode ,just 38 kms away. We left without breakfast as the hotel didn’t start serving until 8.00am and we’d miss the best part of the day. I ask you, who starts breakfast at 8 o’clock?Four différent cycle routes come along this section on the Herz Mountains national park, including the ‘witches route’. First stop today will be Bad Harzburg. Before I left NZ I had the bike shop fit a lower front sprocket on my new bike. Boy am I glad I did! This profile shows the elevations just for today. By tomorrow we should be away from the Herz mountain foothills though and have easier going.Bad Harzburg. The statues are hilarious 😂 heading now for Ilsenburg the route goes through the forest of the Harz national park. It’s a warm day and the shade is delicious We are now in what was East Germany. The border was that grey line from top to bottomDrübeck Abbey. We had a browse around the grounds and even down into the cryptWernigerode. Just in time to see a vintage car rally turn up at the town hall. He’s lighting the gas lights while in the background the sky tower comes down for another load of sightseers. Then up it goes again
