Gartz was not easy to leave ! We passed through the town gates but failed to find any more bike signs and found ourselves sharing a road with morning commuters. Blow that ! We turned back to where we last saw a sign, luckily only 3 kms back, and found the correct path.
what a relief ! We’re following the canal again.
We had breakfast in a supermarkets cafe then finished it with some fruit an hour later at Staffelde ( everyone was staring at us at the supermarket )
5 minutes down the lane we cross the border into Poland. Didn’t even get our passports stamped !
The road started off smooth and flat and by the time we got to Kamieniec it was getting really rough. And rougher still!
There’s a lot of renovations going on in every village ,like this one being reclad. Not your usual reclad job eh?
re-roofing. They stopped throwing stuff down just to let us pass
and there’s a lot of new development happening along the Oder as we get closer to Szczecin. Poland is still recovering from its past but it seems to be prospering now.
Unfortunately the bike route bought us in through a very scruffy area with little room for bikes so we walked for a while.
This was once a very prosperous city but one by one they are bringing them back to their former glory again. We have an apartment tonight that would probably cost $300 back in Berlin. Here, $66 ! We love it . But then again, in Berlin there would have been an elevator.
