It was nice having another apartment with a kitchen. We were able to make a decent breakfast and still be on the road by 6.30 .A bit of drama when I realised we’d dropped our key into the drop box along with the bike chain key. Luckily I remembered we had a spare.
10 minutes down the road and I recognised this Auckland Warriors jersey. “Hey are you a kiwi ?” I called. ” Yeah mate, I saw your flag and was about to ask you!” His name is Martin and he’s here on holiday to visit relations . It was good to chat with someone who didn’t have an accent. ( every one else has an accent except Kiwis )
Our last look up the Oder as we head out of town . We’re heading north for the coast. We were planning to go across from Berlin to Warsaw but there’s an Emigration museum in Gdańsk that we really want to look at because Christines great grandfather and his family left from there for NZ .
Stepnica is on a bike route but we’re getting a little suspicious about these Polish bike routes. For a long time today we stayed on footpaths, weaving in and out of pedestrians, when that ran out we were forced to share a VERY rough road with the morning traffic. At least they couldn’t speed!
Bliss. Back on a lovely quiet road again. We were beginning to wonder if anyone here owned a mower.
UH OH ! Oh well it looks smooth. Trouble was it was sandy and our road tyres sank into it. We found another route after 3kms of this
Poland is a VERY catholic country and there’s a statue on the edge of each town and village
Even a tent church
You’d think the grocery store was shut but it just to keep it cool inside
We commented that none of the shop assistants seemed pleased to see us . They seem suspicious of strangers .
Coming in to Modrzewie. We’re starting to see the storks nesting
luckily those logging trucks were only coming to this town . I stopped and watched them sorting the logs, dropping them in a yard on one side of the road then this elaborate looking escalator took them over the road to the mill
Stepnica. It’s a lovely little town with a fishing fleet and a sandy beach
Our hotel , right on the harbour and only $77 with breakfast . We were in by 1.00pm having only done 58kms but we were glad to knock off
