Gdynia

Well that was a funny little house. We headed straight out to the coast this morning to take advantage of a tale wind again. The temperature has dropped to 10 degrees . I wish I had gloves In 1921 there was a war with Russia hanging over Poland so a military road along the coast from Hel to the old German border was built ,strong enough to take military vehicles. Basalt rock! It’s still being used at this point today. Not bad for an old road ! At Wladyslawowo we stopped at one of the many smoked fish vendors for coffee. I had smoked herring with my coffee. That’s the chimney in the background. The smell of smoked fish was all along this street. We’ve decided to take Michael the Pole’s advise and go to Hel !. It’s at the end of the 30km Hel peninsula and from there we can get a ferry across to Gdynia. The massive and shallow bay that it forms is a windsurfer and kite boarders heaven. There were hundreds of them with a lot of business’s teaching the art.An old antiaircraft emplacement. Every few kms there was a plaque telling of some battle or military history . There’s been forts here since the war with Sweden in the 1700s . Then in the 2nd world war it was the poles defending against the Germans , then the Germans defending against the Russians The biggest Guns ever made were placed here on what is now a museum to the wars. When the Russians were advancing they isolated this peninsular and the railway so the Germans in a last desperate effort to halt them used railway locomotives to stop Russian tanks coming up through the shallows of the bay.Justarna. The towns are at the wider parts of the spit. It’s only 100 metres wide in many places after a brilliant 60km ride with the wind all day we are finally in Hel. I have to report that it’s not as hot as I had expected A chainsaw carving from a single log. I couldn’t get it all in! So my friends, it’s really not so bad !👹

Gdynia. It looks amazing. Now we have to re -saddle the horses and go and find our Bed for the night . sorry about the lack of photos yesterday. The apartment claimed to have wifi but they were telling porkies.
