The forecast was for rain this afternoon so we planned to get at least 50kms north then find somewhere to stay before then. After breakfast we had a look around the old town

clocks went forward an hour when we crossed the border into Lithuania. We crossed the Neris river then followed it up steam for an hour
Brilliant ! Well marked also.
mmmm. I think we’ve missed a sign. At least it was hard and smooth. I needed to use the GPS a lot though which chews through the battery
Then came a pretty section through bush and around lake Verkiai .
Quiet back roads came next with wooden houses being the norm. What was worrying though was the absence of shops! The villages were just a few houses on huge blocks of land.
In fact we decided to go 6kms out of our way to Nemencine which looked a big town on the map.
But not a single shop had wifi. I needed to book accomodation ahead as so far we had seen NOTHING. Thank goodness a lot of young people speak English. The assistant in this kebab shop let me use her hotspot. I’ve found a good one 20kms ahead .
Azulauke. The general store. Those black clouds have been threatening all day but still no rain. We’ve been on EV11 all day but now it’s taking us along a road that’s getting busier
And busier ! The last 3 kms to our turnoff we walked. You can’t ride on the berm as it’s soft and sandy. The address of our villa for tonight was in Babriskes. Little did we realise that we had ridden past it 5 kms back. They had no sign out in case people came in off the street without booking. Duh, I thought that’s what hotels did?
Anyway it’s a beautiful place . On a huge farm specialising in horse breeding and riding schools. ($50 )
Our appartement is on the bottom floor. Tonight we’ll consider our options as to our future route
