Siauliai

No we weren’t escaping. It’s 5.00am and we’re going to beat the traffic.

We made the decision last night to get back on the coast and onto EV10 the quickest way possible . It’s 45kms to the nearest station at Vievis hence the early start. hand milking the house cow. It was slightly misty and we sneaked up on no fewer that 4 fox’s, huge storks picking up hay on the side of the road ,but only a few cars.Although there are lots of lovely places like our villa last night, the majority of houses are old and generally small. What surprises me most is the vast amounts of land lying fallow. Good land that is not being used? It gives the countryside an uncared for look. 6.30 and there’s a few cars out now. We’re lit up like Xmas trees though and they’re very considerate. We’re here, the dead centre of Vievis. We couldn’t get a direct train to Klaipeda so today we’ll just go to Sauliai then on in the morning.A lot of the shops have little ‘confessionals’ they serve through. Even the kebab place I bought lunch at, as if they’re scared of being robbed.or just cold maybe .Kaisiadorys. Our first change of train. The locals did this so I followed. It was either that or carry the bikes up a set of stairs. Very pleased they’re so light as even getting them on and off trains would be a mission. We had 4 hours to kill here so we read our books and took turns to look around town. It’s difficult to find anything pretty in the villages. There doesn’t seem to be any civic pride , or any pride in their own places for that matter. It’s not that the country’s poor . Lithuania has the highest GDP of the 3 Baltic states and a great railway system which judging by the 1000s of stacked up new lines, they are increasing daily.Siauliai ( shy lay) We catch this train at 9.00am tomorrow.
