After such a perfect ride along the Lithuanian coast we were confidant of more of the same in Latvia
Pretty cute way out of Sventoji but the next kilomètre had us worried. Not bad but nothing as good as yesterday. In fact we were led back to the A11. Still fairly quiet on a Saturday morning but soon to get busy. The surface was smooth, the traffic was very considerate, but still it was the noise and the very small berm that played on our nerves.
After half an hour we crossed in to Latvia. Here’s the road rules for Latvia. Note the headlights on at all times, most of Europe has that rule. Makes you wonder why NZ can’t. This road is flat and nearly dead straight and after another 15 kms we took a detour to get us off it.
Mostly crops and market gardens now. I must say though, every one keeps their places mown and tidy. Perhaps it has something to with the little snakes we see. I’m out of water so I asked a farmer to fill my bottle. Very friendly lot and while I waited I had a good look at his tractor turned truck
At this point the freshly metaled road was too rough to ride so we pushed for 3 or 4 kms. Still, it’s warm ,quiet, there’s worst places to be. The only thing nagging us is we never had breakfast and it’s getting close to midday .
Saved .! Never mind the cakes, give us FOOD
Potatoe pancakes, Latvian style. Why am I so obsessed with food. If he was selling an Apple I’d have grabbed one.
Liepaja. We booked in to a hotel, not cheap either as there’s a festival on .
Boats were parading up the river while on shore rock bands and brass bands were competing with each other
