There was only one other couple in last night so we had the kitchen to ourselves as we made breakfast. It’s a lovely morning and we’re on the road by 6.30am
Elk or Moose ? I’m not sure but judging by the number of signs along here there must be a few of them.
We did see this fellow though. He paused to look around which was all the time I needed . The shortest route to Salo is up the 104. It was full of surprises…
It wound it’s way around lots of lakes and past 3 more iron foundry’s .
Fiskar. The town hall dates back to 1840.
The old school. Now shops and flats. All the old mills are still here and also a large brewery . The clock tower is wood on a brick building . The church steeples are all done the same. Wooden steeples on a stone or brick church. I googled ‘minerals ,Finland’ last night and was amazed at how rich in minerals Finland is. It’s no wonder there’s so many iron foundry’s . Of course the other ingredient they needed to make steel was charcoal and there’s no shortage of forests in Finland . After this pretty road we swung left onto the 168. A major road which luckily wasn’t too busy . It was flatter ( all roads undulate in Finland) fairly straight and comparatively boring. But at least it got us to Salo by midday . Funny what you think of when it’s not interesting. We’ve now done over 2000 kms, we average 450 turns of the pedals per kilometre. That’s over 900,000 times we’ve turned them, SHITE !
Salo . It’s a pretty enough town with some very impressive murals, lots of flowers everywhere , and more sports fields , golf courses and stadiums than you can poke a stick at
I couldn’t believe how cheap tonight’s hotel was on Booking.com. Great reviews, near new, open 24/7. ?
Well ! No I didn’t get the email and no one answered the phone. After half an hour of trying I asked at the bowling alley next door and he said ” yes, I can let you in , they often have these problems” New fangled bloody nonsense !
