Today is about a ferry ride. The B n B let us have our breakfast early so we could get to the terminal without any pressure. It was only 10 minutes away and we were there before 8.00
We have to go on with the cars and then the bikes go to a corner some where. It’s going to be a 12 hour voyage with one stop At the Γ
land island town of Mariehamn
Included on this trip is a cabin , tiny but good enough for a sleep.
also included is a banquet lunch worthy of a cruise ship. Oh boy ! I think our stomachs have shrunk because we just couldn’t manage much.Total price including the bikes was β¬80. Lunch included
As we passed through the archipelago the sheer size of it hit home. 4 hrs at cruising speed and we still aren’t out of them. I did mention that Finland has more than 60,000 islands didn’t I .
Mariehamn. One lot left and another lot rolled on. Even way out here there’s islands in all directions.
It really is a cruise ship. Several live bands, movie theatres …
And now we’re in the Swedish archipelago there’s 4 hrs of the most beautiful islands dozens of sail boats …. We pass so close to some of the houses you can see inside them.
Stockholm. The doors opened for us and we had to wait while a couple of hundred cleaners swarmed on board . They only have a short time and then this ship returns on its night crossing.
Our hostel The Ersta was only a couple of hundred metres from the terminal . What a great find.! Right in the heart of the city with a view over to the Vasa museum , one of the main bucket list museums for me. You’ll see why tomorrow.
Standing in our front garden you can see the ferry taking on cars for its return trip. This was once a training hospital for a religious order, still owned by the order with our money for the room ,going to help run the attached Hospice.
