Skansholmens

We were so keen to get back on the bikes this morning. Packed up and ready half an hour before breakfast. Took our bags out the front door and…..ohhhhh SHIT ! No bikes. We should have taken them inside but this was supposed to be a secure area. Oh well, I rang the police for insurance reasons , don’t expect them to find them. They mentioned something about gypsy’s and they’ll post the forms ?I found a bike shop with some bikes that would suit us and settled on a couple of good hybrids. Then the fit out, carriers ,decent seats, bells, water bottle holders, pumps, all the little things . The only thing I couldn’t get there was a speedo and a new chain, and they couldn’t change the handle bars. Modern hybrids come with those ridiculous straight handle bars designed to give you cramp in your hands.By one o’clock we were ready to roll. Lots of teething problems ,seat heights etc . Front bag had no bracket as it was with the old bike so I had to throw the bags away and buy 2 new ones. Nowhere near as good but they’ll do. We booked ahead last night as there’s a real shortage of places on this part of the route. The pressures on now to make it but It’s only 54kms so we should be right. Once we cleared the city it became pretty with several little swimming beaches along the way. I was concerned that the ferry to the next island would have stopped running but we made it okWe can finally relax. The camp is on the other side of this crossing ( all ferries are free in Sweden)Home for the night! Be it ever so humble. The restaurant is next door so we were glad of a beer and a mealIt’s a lovely spot on a little peninsula. Ferry crossing on one side of the restaurant and a corker little harbour on the other . Not a great day but the bikes were insured so not the worst either.!
