Söderköping

I finished doing the modifications to the bikes last night and this morning we stopped at the first rubbish bin and threw out all sorts of good gear. Seats etc. A chap came along from the local bike club and went through the bin after I told him what was in it. The countryside is pretty through here with lots of small farms , even a dairy farm and lots of interesting machinery for me to stop and admire. Christine rides on ahead, just doesn’t see the beauty in it ?Klaus from Munich stops to chat. We lament the shortage of accomodation and the high costs.We meet up again at the Skenas ferry. He’s travelling really light Söderköping . It’s a camp ground with a hostel. This was the staff quarters for the dry dock which served the adjacent Goya canal ( our room is the bottom right)Söderköping is the Eastern end of this magnificent canal which comes out at Gothenburg on the west coast. My mate Ashley is staying at Gothenburg at present and I couldn’t help thinking if he could just stay on his bike, he could get over and see us in a week. No ? It’s a lovely town , once a Major trading port until ships became too big. We went through a little museum , the bottom story of which was built in the 12th century The old curate was telling us that every time they dig ditches or holes around the old town they discover artefacts from some bygone era.
