There was no way we were going to leave our bikes out with the others. They came to bed with us. It’s 6am , we’ve had breakfast and we’re sneaking out quietly. “I heard that, no ,we paid last night”
Over one bridge onto a small island and now we need to cross this one to get to the large island south of Vordingborg. This one is 3.5 kms long
and what an old relic it is. I’d hate to be on it when a train goes over it. It shook just with trucks. (They’re in the process of replacing it)
Ok, lets make it to Sakskøbing for coffee
At Guldborg thé bridge was up for a while to let that yacht pass. Its gusting strongly and he was having all sorts of trouble.
Sakskøbing. It’s no wonder their old buildings are in such good condition. There always seems to be someone working on one somewhere
2 major pilgrims routes cross at this town and there’s a hostel for them next to the church. One of the routes is the Santiago one which we followed 3 or 4 years ago
I caught sight of a farmers private tractor collection from my bike. Rode in and when his wife decided I wasn’t a gypsy she showed me around
Nuffields in one part of his yard and Leylands in another.
He also had a lot of implements and was just blowing the old combine harvester down after using it on some of his wheat.
Nakskov. Taken from our B n B. The church you see, we later visited . Built in 1240 ( in brick !) it is famous for a strange reason. While at war with the Swedes ( another war ! ) A Swedish ship snuck in to the harbour and sent a cannon ball into the church during a Sunday service. It smashed the alter which was recovered century’s later along with the cannon ball. not bad shooting eh ?
And as with all Danish churches I’ve seen ( and I’ve seen my share ) there’s a ship hanging from the ceiling. ( Perhaps to remind themselves to keep an eye out for any Swedes sailing up the harbour )
