Ditzumerhamrich

It is SO nice to be out on a bike on a morning like this. There’s still not a lot of warmth in the sun yet though. The bike road ran beside the main road to Aurich, smooth and fast but very noisy from the traffic. On the outskirts we passed a massive factory that made wings for the wind turbines . Hundreds of them ,stacked outside ready to be taken away on the special over length transporters.Aurich. We were resting here working out which road to take to Emden when a lady broke down on the centre lane of that road , just before the traffic lights. Unfreekingbelievable ! The poor old thing got out and looked hopefully under the bonnet. We thought ‘surely to God someone is going to help’ ? Nope . The lights changed twice and still they just drove around her. It was too much for us so we ran across, told her to steer to the curb while we pushed. We had to stop the traffic on the lane we needed to cross, asking several drivers to give us a hand or at least get out of the bloody way. Nope ! In the end we just pushed and forced them to stopShe was very grateful but said she wasn’t surprised, it’s just a thing they won’t do here.?A self serve shop at Holzloog. Swipe your card, punch in the number and get your eggs, honey, milk or veges.Emden. On the mouth of the river Ems, canals and harbours run in all directions. We stopped for morning tea in the town square, the sculptures and beautiful old ships creating a lovely atmosphere. After a good look around, following the tourist trail, we headed south to catch our ferry at Petkum. It’s only supposed to be a bike and passenger ferry and runs across to Ditzum on the other sideBut after they’d squeezing about 40 of us on board ,we were all moved to the side and 2 cars were backed on.Ditzum. Our BnB is another 6 kms west at Ditzumerhammrich. We’ve stocked up on yogurt and bananas for breakfast, and enough for a light meal tonight ,as we’ve learnt never to trust these BnB ‘s. Who knows what they’ll have there.
