This is the last day on the road for a week as we rest up in Gorredijk in an Air BnB .
It’s funny how different areas have their own unique ways. Having a two part roof is common in Friesland . I’m told it’s more to break up the huge roof line than anything. Sometimes 2 different coloured tiles and sometimes thatch on the cattle end and tiles on the living end.
The bikeways are varied and always interesting, even though it’s so flat. Get this…
So today we are going past Hemrik to our goal so I’d write on my hand 21, 93, 35, 43, 47, 5. Pretty cool eh !
It’s Saturday morning and there are kids out fishing and canoeing on the canal. This canal goes through Gorredijk .see their little tractor they took fishing
At Hemrik a student was operating the lock gates and the lifting bridge. Paid by the government he said. I got talking to the people in the old Dutch barge and after they’d told me of its history ( Built in the 1930s out of steel ) it happened that 2 of them had stayed in our Air BnB last night.
It’s only been 40 kms to here in Gorredijk. There was a kids day on in town with lots of free activities for them and live music in the streets

Home for the next week . (I’m standing in the church ruins next door.) It’s almost new and really lovely. Tomorrow morning I’m going to cook PORRIDGE 😁
