Flüelen

The bikes are already downstairs as Christine brings down her luggage .

I realised I had put the accommodation down as $127 Franks last night when it should have been $127 dollars.

We started out this morning at 7.30, too late really as the work traffic was heavy. First goal Schindellegi. It looked like a good road on the map and only 10kms. HOLY CRAP ! It was almost straight up. I was worrying about lack of oxygen by the time we arrived.

Halfway up we met Michel at a lookout.

At least the road still had a bike lane but when we reached Schindellegi the road got busier and the bike lanes got fewer. We thought it prudent to take a train to Sattel Aegeri to avoid the worst bits

I needed a young person to help me get the tickets. Quite complicated trip even if it wasn’t far . Had to change trains twice

The red train does the trip to Italy through the Gothard tunnel

One of the memorable things about Switzerland is the cleanliness and (except for some city areas) the absence of graffiti !

We hopped off at Sattel and started riding again. Massive downhill sections with spectacular scenery. Trouble was you didn’t dare take your eyes off the road to admire it so we stopped at every lookout

I’ve always got time to watch a bit of machinery working like this moving grab unloading the truck
We roll downhill into Schwyz

Bit of excitement. At least 10 police had the road blocked and had a felon in handcuffs on the footpath for us to walk around.

Mt Schwyz dominates the town
Brunnen where we stayed 4 years ago when we Followed the Rhine to Holland

I was hoping to stay here again but it was full so a quick check on Booking.com and I found a place in Flüelen . You can’t ride there as it’s through a massive tunnel so we jumped on the train again and in about 5 minutes we were there

Funny but the thing I remember about this town from the Rhine trip is this concrete car

We watched this couple trying to tie up in a strong wind until I could stand it no longer

Actual kms biked was only about 30kms but this was still a good place to get to as tomorrow we will bike to the foot of the alps . I found this place on Booking.com . It’s owned by some Thai women and it’s called The Rose
