The Furkapass was the last obstacle before we would see the source of the Rhone. Ok , not a problem if you were a Lycra clad athlete on a racing bike or even if you owned an Ebike but we couldn’t lug our gear up it so we took the easy way

The bikes were slung on a type of meat hook on the back of the bus and up we went

Just 2 kms down the other side we came to the magnificent sight of the Rhone Glacier. It’s only 200 metres off the road .

But the truly mind blowing thing is, you can actually go inside it. Every year for the last 180 years a tunnel is carved out for people to experience this phenomenon

After a coffee at the kiosk we headed down the mountain side. Biting cold still ,but the sun was shining on all the peaks around us and we weren’t the only cyclists whooping and hollering. What a day!

Just when I thought I’d seen it all, not far past Gletch a steam engine with 4 carriages came around the corner

It was a relief to finally get down to Oberwald, take off some clothes, change underwear. ……

The cycleway is superb from here to Ritzingen. We had a strong tail wind which made it even better

This region up here is WALLIS and these are wallis apricots.
From Ritzingen we crossed the river again and followed what should have been called a mountain bike trail. We could have gone on to the main road as the drivers are courteous but unfortunately there’s the occasional tunnel which freaks us out a bit.
We came back to the main road at Lax to look for a place to stay the night. It’s 4pm and we really should have been off the road an hour ago so luckily we found a hotel nearby and it had a bistrot in the garden bar for our dinner.

Starting to build the mileage up a bit 50kms today.
