Since we’ve come away from the bike trail we are going to catch the train to Seyssel where we can intersect it again.

The train this morning was only stopping at the next station along, Culoz. Funny little station, I had to cross the lines to get out.

We will stay on the D91 for a little while. Today is Bastille day, a French holiday so there was hardly a car in sight and not a single truck. Hard to believe this was the road we were on yesterday. All the same, we put on our fluros

At last ! At Massignieu-de-Rives we came across the vélo route. It’s a Hot mix path that runs all the way along the Rhone now, occasionally crossing sides.

It’s remarkable how many families are out today. Many are towing trailers with either the baby or the dog inside

We’ve booked a place at Villebois, about 42 kms away. It was important to book early today as nothing was open( apart from Mcds ) the bikeway is brilliant so the going should be good

The Rhone widens with the occasional dam and power station. A lot of the valley has been restored to its original state with wildlife areas that the trail goes through. Lots of information boards describe the habitats and the wildlife to look out for

The temperature is rising and there’s still 20kms to go so we go back onto the road to get there quicker .Still hardly any cars though. We stood under the irrigation sprinklers to cool off.

By now we realised that the distance booking.com had given us was by a hilly shortcut. We thought we would never get there and by the time we arrived at 3pm ,we’d done 73 kms. Of course there was no restaurant open anywhere near so we’ll have to wait for breakfast. Luckily we’re still carrying a bit of fat !
