Saint Gilles

Doesn’t look much from outside but this Chambre doté was probably the best we’ve encountered. Because we use Booking.com exclusively they ask us to rate each one. Imagine what I told them about the Panache.! Christines knee is giving her trouble so we have only a short day planned to give it a rest. 25kms to St Gillies .

By habit now ,we leave at 6.30 even though we have only a short day planned, St Gilles.
Now this was interesting! We saw a Eurovelo sign so we blindly followed it. We had already crossed the Rhone to head west but this was confusing ? Until I realised we were INSIDE the motorway bridge heading back to the city. That thunderous noise is TRAFFIC

No excuse for it now that we have data. I could have just turned my route map on. For some reason I thought we would be following the petit Rhone to St Gilles but we were exclusively on back country lanes all the way

The only sounds were from frogs and birds. Not even a breath of wind. Several herds of the famous white horses of the Camargue were grazing close to the road

When we first saw this small herd every horse had at least one bird on its back. We stopped, mesmerised ,as the flocks of birds would circle above the horses then glide in and land on their backs . The horses never flinched. They never even knew we were there. !

The Lone Ranger happened along and I checked that I was on the correct route
The Marina of Saint Gilles. As we arrived ( 9.30 for goodness sake ) this hire boat was returning home. There is a houseboat rental company here
Today we did nothing but read and rest. At 6.30 I sat out in the bar and wrote the blog and marvelled that I would ever part with $13 for a glass of beer.

After weeks of never seeing a cloud ,this evening it has become cloudy and windy from the south. The staff tell me it’s the Mistral, blowing up from Africa. Still warm but not uncomfortable!

Never thought I’d be so glad to see a cloud ?
