Breakfast on the balcony. That was a very hot night last night. No aircon so it’s a relief to have breakfast at 5.30 and get away
The beach groomer was out early at La Grande-Motte
The architecture at La Grande Motte is crazy. All funny shaped buildings
It took a while to get through that area and we eventually we found the Rhone Sete canal

From La Grande-Motte to Sète there are a system of shallow lakes ,and to join the Midi canal to the Rhone, a canal was dug through them with the diggings heaped up on the sides to later form roads.

There’s still a fishing industry in the lakes and the fishing villages look rather cute sitting on the edge of the canal
A floating bridge that swings open when a boat comes along. It’s drive by an outboard
It’s over 20kms on the canal with hardly a bend so any distraction was welcome
Another small village with some of the work boats tied to the verandah posts. Frontignan can just be seen on the far side of the lake

We are meeting Gerard at the Frontignan Gare and we will follow him to his home

We met Gerard and Claudia in Romania 8 years ago as we both were cycling to the Black Sea . We will stay with them for 2 nights

Chez Gerard et Claudia. We would never have found the address. The streets were jam packed with cars. Probably for the Market

After lunch we were taken on the grand tour of Sete (not in the fiat I’m afraid )

From the lookout on the mountain we could see the towns in the distance we had come from
To the hills of Spain far off to the south

Sète is a beautiful town, sometimes called the Venice of France because of its many canals. Also perhaps because a lot of Italiens that live there

No it’s not a letter box. It’s a pressure beer dispenser. Delicious beer too. I
went to buy Gerard a beer at a bar on the mountain and was highly embarrassed when they refused to take my card. It was either cash. Or they would accept a CHEQUE.
