Béziers

There was no sign of rain this morning as we headed out of town . Eurovélo 8 follows the quay towards the river mouth

Saturday morning so lots of fishermen along both sides of the river
I said we were going to follow the canal but the first 5 kms are unusable so this route will take us through a little farm lane
We took a detour to Vias plage and wished we hadn’t. The entire coastline was covered in campsites, all with their own idea of how to attract the punters. Water slides and roller coasters seemed the most popular with tacky theme bars everywhere

After we passed this horse riding place we were back onto the midi canal

Blessed relief after all that traffic. I wonder how much time those holiday makers spend in traffic jams
I THINK she was steering ! He seemed to be checking his emails
Portiragnes. I like to read the history panels as we go . Did you know that 10,000 years ago the sea level was 100 metres below where it is now? I blame those bloody cave men and their fires
Suitably educated,it was a good place to stop for coffee
The funny thing is, when I ask for a grand cup of coffee ( big ) I still get the small expresso ,only in a big cup
Villeneuve-lès-Béziers.
and a free book exchange. Someone in Katikati zoomed in on the last book I had and noticed it was a tacky women’s novel. I think he’ll appreciate me reading Neville Shute

We had to cross the road as it went over the bridge and as usual it was bumper to bumper traffic. An old lady walked past me as we waited ( well when I say old ,probably our age )and asked was I lost ,and when I explained no, I’m just trying to get across the road, she just walked into the middle of the road ,held up her hands and stopped the traffic in both directions, then waved us over. So funny, so French

I found us an appartement in Béziers . Kitchen , balcony the works. And security ! It was so good I couldn’t get through the gate. I managed to sneak through then let it think I was leaving so it would open
