Wittenberg

It was only 3km to klietz and then we had to work out our course for the day using these maps.

It’s the Dutch system and because there are so many different cycle ways , it’s ingenious. Klietz is 97 and since we are heading to Havelburg, our first major goal is Schonfield 83. The route isn’t numbered, just the destination.
And Bobs your uncle, just head to 83. ( apologies to our German followers, it means ‘and there you are’ )
A Jewish monument 1941/45. I wish I could understand the inscription but I’m guessing it would be some sad recognition of ugly times.
There are so many late model cars towing late model caravans that it’s refreshing to see something different. It would take a while to get there mind you.
Havelburg. The last town on the river Havel before it runs into the Elbe. It starts in the mountains south of Berlin
Typically only one coffee shop open in town and cyclists everywhere. Strange !
Quitzobel, just before the rivers meet. We’re running along the top of a massive stopbank as this area is prone to flooding of both rivers at once

We still can’t believe how good these cycle ways are. 60 kilometres today and all on this type of surface.

They were working on flood gates on the Havel. The Havel has been on our right side with the Elbe on our left up to now but we are now crossing to the right bank of the Havel
I admire this family. 4 little girls and a strong head wind. Even we are struggling .
We chatted with this couple from Kiev . They took the train to the source of the Havel and will finish at Hamburg
The dam and lock on the Havel just before it’s outflow
The residents of Ruhstadt. They make a loud clicking noise as they stand for hours preening themselves
And this was just to satisfy myself that someone DOES sail on the Elbe. Even if it is only in one direction. Pity I couldn’t see the yacht but that’s a hell of a mower. 11 meter cut

We thought we would take a chance on a place in Wittenberg and it was nearly our undoing. A lot of Tours start from here, lots of bike rental shops and dozens of cycling tourists in trendy looking gear. Hence the demand ( and of course the price) was high. We got a beauty right on the river where we could watch Dragon boat practice as well as the cyclists coming in

Not to mention the Tour de France again on tv
