Wingst

There are 2 bike routes from Stade to Cuxhaven, one goes through Assel closer to the river, and an overland one through Hemmore. It kept me up last night trying to find accommodation on the eastern route so I settled on the inland route. First stop Himmelphorten.

It was a very scenic route on the way out of Stade but there was no sun out to give me direction and I felt we were going around in circles

Sure enough, we were lost and had nearly done a complete circle . 8km on the clock and only one km from where we started. SHIT !

Mittelsdorf and we were now on the right path 🙏
Lots of huge farmhouses with thatched rooves but this is a brand new house with thatch. It looks beautiful but it’s also very expensive
Himmelphorten finally! They’ve been warning people in southern Europe not to drink coffee or alcohol as it will dehydrate them in the extreme heat they’re having
Outside the chemist shop. No heat problems up here. The highest we’ve had has still been below 30° ( see how I slipped that degree sign in there Ewen) The spelling and grammar police have been on my case !
We’ve decided to skip the bike trail at this point and stay on the main road. It’s a separate footpath for bikes so feels perfectly safe. By the time we had reached Hemmore we had cut out 7 kilometres of trail which made up for my huge blunder this morning
Crossing the river Oste
Petrol prices are a bit more than New Zealand. Thé Super is like our 91 and works out at $3.36 NZ. We’re now in Hemmore and we can hear thunder above us but I’m not worried as the forecaster said only a 20% chance of light showers and they’re never wrong in Germany
USUALLY
It was then that I realised just how few shops have verandahs in Germany.
It stopped just as quickly and we sprinted the last 7km to Wingst and the *Park*hotel.
We could hardly see it from the street
They were a very nice Spanish couple who owned it.

And they got bonus points for having several guitars hanging in the bar . I tuned one and had a one man jam session
