Still Apen

I think the owner lives downstairs but when I messaged him to tell him I couldn’t keep the water in the bath, he said they were in Spain and gave some useless information that didn’t help anyway. We are ahead of schedule and don’t want to turn up in Amsterdam too early so 2 days here was a good break.

There were market stalls in the town square. I like to check out the German sausages
2 young chaps were here for the day fishing . They had 6 rods and more gear than the New Zealand army but all they had caught in 2 hours were 2 Carp which were thrown back. I think they need burly Ash
We were on our way to a glasshouse manufacturing plant. Hundreds of different structures including a glasshouse cafe where we got our fix. One glass house had a Durant and a vintage truck. Yay
Now this East German car might have been expensive for the poor old working class but the engines weren’t reliable either so repairing or repowering could be crippling.
Unless you had a couple of spare bicycles lying around
No gears but when you came to a hill a good slog of Coca-Cola should get you over
The 1640 St Nikolai church in the town square. Apen brick no doubt.
The old girl is starting to bulge as you can see by the bracing . I guess that’s what made the stained glass windows pop out.

Interestingly, in spite of its age , the graves only dated back 50 years. I asked about it at the Rathaus next door and they explained that like the Danish system you only lease the plot for 25years. About $10,000. If you wanted to continue with the plot after this time, then another payment for 25 years would be needed. I don’t know what happens to the old inhabitants but the cemeteries certainly look well loved

Now let’s not dwell on it. 😇. Back on the bikes tomorrow
