Bellingwolde

We never got to see the centre of Leer yesterday as the hotel was on the edge of town. Todays route to Bellingwolde starts by going through the inner harbour and Old town area . New appartments overhang the inner harbour where once tall ships moored next to warehouses

The tea lady welcomes you to the Old town

The old town borders the inner harbour and many old sailing and working boats are kept at the museum there.

An honesty box bookshop. All overpriced I thought
We’re out in the country now , it’s warm and unusually not a breath of wind . It’s not often these giants don’t work
It’s only 13km to Weener
There’s a cafe ahead so we relax here on the edge of the harbour for an hour
Ships would moor here once to off load peat.
The women of the town would unload the peat. The man who told me all this said that the lady on the left was his grandmothers neighbour and she was still doing this until she died at 94.
We have just startled 2 deer who were crossing the lane in front of us . Before this we stood and watched a pair of European Beaver grazing in a field beside us . Totally unaware we were there.
Just over the canal is Bellingwolde

And our first night in Holland
