Amsterdam

Strong winds are forecast today from 10am so we’re away by 6.30 ( head winds of course) Its Sunday so we’re hoping we’ll be able to find something to eat before too long

This is the first sign showing Amsterdam. I wish it was only that far but getting to the edge of Amsterdam is only the beginning. Google maps says it’s going to be 70km to Hoofddorp where we’re staying
Entering Almere. The variation in architecture was what struck us the most
He’s actually pushing 2 boats in front of him
My back tyre has been getting a lot of comments. Playing Russian roulette really but I only need to get through today
Well it wasn’t my tyre that gave up. It was Christines front that got a puncture. This little fellow was intrigued and thought I wanted to play
Muiden. Pretty little town on the outskirts of Amsterdam. We found this pub open
Apple pie with cream and a cup of tea. Sounds delicious and it is ,but what I wouldn’t give for a New Zealand meat pie. It started raining just before we arrived here so we’re still wet
.Right outside the pub were 2 locks side by side. By the time 17 boats were in and ready to be raised to sea level, a crowd of bikers were waiting to cross
The yacht is the last. There was no room for the ship, he will have to wait for the next lift.

Google had given me several alternative routes so the simplest way was through the suburb of Amstelveen. What a depressing part of it this was. Block after block after hideous block of these things

Passing under a subway was the ‘tunnel of love’ . Couples had written their names on the hearts and surprisingly there was NO graffiti. Maybe that was the intention
Little diesel car. Because it’s under a certain size engine , like the scooters it’s allowed on the cycleway

It seems like this city goes on forever. We can see the Planes coming over us to the airport !

Finally we’re on the last road that will take us to Hoofddorp. It’s 7 km in a straight line and straight into what now feel like a gale. I’m stopping to take photos but it’s really a rest I’m after
Hoofddorp. It’s the closest suburb to the airport and where we’ll stay until we fly out on Thursday. It’s having a building boom. Amazingly, google maps was spot on again. 70km exactly

It’s been a good trip and the last long one we’ll do on the old bikes. We’re going to just be a tourist around Amsterdam now. And use the train !!
