Vichy-le-François

It’s easy to find the middle of town when you can see the cathedral for miles. ( Quick Look inside )
There were a few Franks left over so what the heck , build another. Just down the street
This 16th century house has a rotten beam so the props are to stop it falling while they replace it
The canal was easy to find so “goodbye Chalon-en-Champagne
Same as New Zealand. Just in case you didn’t realise that was a mower
Pogny. There were 2 barges this size with bicycles for paying guests.
We are now moving in to limestone country with old kilns beside the abandoned wharves
And massive cement factories

Just then a barge comes past with a couple of Australians on board. We also met a group of them coming towards us on bikes yesterday. ( where are all the kiwis ?)

Close to Vitry-le-Francois the canal actually passed over the Marne. We could see some decent sized fish in the river from up here
Vitry le François. This is its own Arc de Triumph
It’s a lovely town and not to be outdone by Chalon, with its own Cathedral.
This park was right next door to the ‘Bon Sujours’ hotel so we killed an hour waiting for it to open. ( interesting sculpture? )

This is a significant turning point today as tomorrow we leave the Marne valley to follow the Marne-Rhein canal east
