Démange-aux-Eaux

What a wonderful old Maison that was, but every floorboard creaked and groaned so we were fortunate that there were no other Guests. Our host Michel, lived downstairs and we had nearly finished breakfast before he came in. He was so obliging and put our wet clothes from yesterday through his clothes drier. He looked so familiar!

They say everyone has a double?
The road to Bar-le-Duc was busy with morning workers so we shot down a side road looking for an alternative route. OOPS 😬

We managed to get around by going into the paddock next door

River Ornain. From here on ,the path beside the canal is excellent. Here we pass over one of 5 aqueducts as the canal heads to those hills in the distance.
2 Belgium boats travelling together. We had just commented on how few boats use this particular canal
As the canal rises into the hills the locks are becoming more frequent. It’s going to be a long day for these 2.
The local council has been cleaning the canals along here. Can’t believe how clean the water looks now and the fish we can see !
Remnants of a bygone era. The grain goes by rail now
Ligny-en-Barrois. We stopped here for lunch
Treveray. There’s a monument to the American soldiers of WW1 here. The canal path ran out here so we’ve got the last 5kms on the road
Démange aux Eaux. Our hosts live next door and when they saw we came by bike ,couldn’t do enough for us.

There’s no shop in the village and 8 kilometres to the nearest shop so they bought us everything we needed (and lots we didn’t). Including beer and wine

Right outside ,a local contractor was demolishing this old building
Some locals joined me to watch. Tried talking to these 2 but she poked her tongue out at me

The Olympic Games have started on television and we’ve just seen New Zealand beat Guinea in soccer. Tres bon!
