STRASBOURG!

I often use google maps first thing to get started on the right track, not to mention the right direction

To get back on the canal ( the thin green line) we have to first find Krautwiller
Aha !
Cloud cover all day but it’s still 25°. Three VERY drunken fishermen were just rising. You know , we’ve seen 100s of fishermen and countless fish from up on our bikes, but I’ve yet to see one actually catch anything
It’s getting crowded on the path as racing bikes go flying past us in both directions.
The canal enters the city near the European parliament buildings. There’s buildings going up everywhere. I like that all the concrete shingle comes in by barge
It’s a complicated route from here and as I was studying my map this lady and her foxy offered to help . Three times she passed me while I stopped at different way points. The foxy and I were becoming good mates by the last time
The European Parliament buildings. Spectacular!
With representatives from each of these countries.
A common sight. That’s why one of the things to check with the hotel you’re booking ,is do they have safe bike storage . Mind you ,if I’m ever short of a part…….
Sunday morning at the cafes. ! They had 6 waiters running around . The coffee and croissants were worth waiting for though
Pom’s! They wanted to swap with our bikes but I turned them down flat
Watching the tourist boats pass under us. The city is alive with them
Strasbourg is a pretty place with canals weaving through it in all directions.
Cueing to climb to the top of the cathedral.
This cathedral was finished in the 15th century after taking 150 years to build

I have continually been staggered by the size of the undertaking to bring a canal from Paris to here but at least they had steam shovels in the latter stages. The workers on this cathedral would have taken 6 generations of each family to finally finish it.

I’ve seen so many such cathedrals and they are mostly worn out with bits wearing off the statues but the detail on this one is superb. An absolute work of art. Try zooming in on each sculpture to see the detail,, and there’s thousands of them

Artists doing caricatures for €30 a pop
We sat for half an hour while ‘Nigel’ gave us a little concert. He was really good and I thought his sign summed up my philosophy perfectly
Our apartment is on the south side of town so we passed through Le Petite France district on our way
The fabulous Marne – Rhein canal is behind us now and we are about to start on the Rhône – Rhein canal which will pass through Mulhouse on its way to the Rhône river that’s the grand Mosque
Close to our apartment we found a restaurant serving traditional Alsace food. We tried the Tarte Flambée

We’ve got until Friday to get to Mulhouse ( Muloose ) to meet up with Susan and Michael
