Montbéliard

We were trying to get away by 8.00. The courtyard was alive with motorbikers and other cyclists all with the same idea

It’s 55kms to Montbeliard and it really wasn’t early enough as it’s getting hot around midday

Illfurth. The huge catholic monastery is getting a makeover
Another inside out museum next to a lock
It’s one of the more interesting canals we’ve followed but I still wouldn’t swim in it
The notice said if you sight a particularly rare bird ( forgotten its name) then ring the bell so the locals would know to come for a look. Christine rang it anyway so we had so get out of there quickly before the hoards of twitters arrived
Dannemarie. The first cafe we’ve seen today on the edge of a big harbour
Very few boats were moving around. This was a staircase of at least 10 locks
The canal crosses the Doub river
Lunch time. A hard boiled egg each and half a packet of chocolate biscuits between us. I blame the tour leader, she needs to take better care of her oldies
Montbéliard. Our hotel took a bit of getting to from here
Première Hôtel. Without a doubt the worst place we’ve stayed. ( But it looked so good on their site 😩)

At least it had a supermarket next door and an outside table to eat at

Not all for tonight. Tomorrow is Sunday and there’ll be no shops open
