Dole

Leaving Besancon

There was a museum of the second world war up in the Citadel, but unfortunately it was too hot to go up to see it yesterday afternoon.

We started before 7.00am this morning as it’s 70kms to Dole and no accommodation in any town before then

He’s picking up a huge log. Tractors are allowed to use the bike trail
The village of Thoraise is above . We had to climb up a steep little hill to it while the boats took this shortcut under. Not sure why the compulsory shower
This boat had just come through it.
Mum and daughter. Our old bags have obviously seen better days. They’ll be given away after this trip
We had a deviation at St Vit
The flour mill at St Vit. The water still flows under it but I’m not sure if it drives anything
Fraisons. There had been a Reggae festival over the weekend and they were still cleaning up. We like to stop and rest after 20kms but this was the first cafe at 30kms. More croissants
Once only a peasant’s car, the old CV Citroens are sought after as a collectors car and still seen in everyday use
The land is flattening out and the Doubs is getting wider. Unusually, on this stretch, the canal is separated by a concrete groin just 1metre higher than the present river level
Then when it comes to the weir there are 3 distinct water levels.
Wider river, more boats and the land becoming flatter with dairy farming common
Dole. The entrance was spectacular

What a lovely city ! We explored the old town and then moved on to our Ibis hotel. WITH AIR CONDITIONING 🤪
