The Rhone Rhein canal finally leaves the Doubs river at Dole and heads west towards the Saône. There’s still clouds around this morning and refreshingly cooler
We had a massive thunderstorm at midnight. Lasted for two hours then this morning it was fine again
At Abergement la Ronce we passed a soda ash factory. Once a very busy place but the French government moved the whole plant further back from the German front line prior to WW1Approaching Moulin d’Amont. There’s been a lot of debris on the track from last nights stormBehind the lock keepers house still stands the old mill ( moulin ) with water diverted from the canal to drive itThe lady from the house was selling excellent coffee and tea , for €1 a cupWhile the security cat watched our bikesEureka! The last lock on the Rhone-Rhein before it drops down into the Saône river to then run down into the Rhone. You can make out the route we took today . Briefly leaving the canal out of Dole before meeting up with the Saône. Later we cut out several kilometres by staying on the canal side instead of the detour up through Lechatelet. Only 40kms today which was a nice restSt Jean de Losne. With the bigger river we’re seeing bigger barges. Just after that bridge is the canal Bourgogne to DijonSupposedly unauthorised to travel along this stretch of canal. Not sure why,?we were expecting a dead end and having to turn around to take the long way I mentioned beforeOh shite! We thought we were snookered until we saw the track going around the fencePHEW 😮💨 The lock at Seurre. Bigger boats need bigger locks but what a lot of water to move for a tiny boat like thisIt’s a big apartment with a good kitchen so we’ll cook our own tea tonightWith an inner courtyard where we can put our bikes
