Chalon sur Saône

Susan making the sandwiches from last nights leftovers, Christine packing her bag and Michael taking the bikes through the house to the street
Our hostess was out to see us off .and to make sure we hadn’t trashed the place ?
And here’s our old friend Le Doubs. It meets the Saône here at Verdun-sur -Le Doubs
There was a market on so I bought a sausage from the meat vendor. We had a coffee nearby and remarked that it was our dearest coffee so far

Then it twigged ! It was liberation day. 80 years since American troops came through this part of France to liberate it. ( If only they had known that they would one day be the cause of a surcharge being added to beverages )

47kms today and only 22 to go
Once again we ignored a detour sign and pushed through. It was a slip but just another example of health and safety gone mad
Lunch time on the edge of the river. Susan’s sandwiches. They politely turned down my offer of sausage. Actually it was awful !
A do upper and a new one ! I could see no evidence of ANY steel being used in the concrete blocks !
Our hotel The Kyriad. They’ve converted 3 old buildings into a modern hotel inside. It’s right on the edge of the old town so it’s nice that they didn’t whack up a modern monstrosity
The bike parking was in the dungeon
It’s really good getting in to a town early so we can do our sightseeing before dinner. ( it’s a beautiful old town, )

Quite a significant day today because we finally leave the Rhone-Rhein . Tomorrow we take the Canal du Centre which will take us to the Loire
