Paray le Monial

We slept in this morning. Susan was knocking on our door at 7am, I thought it was still about midnight

It was chilly for a change so we put on jerseys ( well the Aussies put on jumpers)

The sky looked amazing with all different colours and jet streams

On the roadside. It’s looking a bit permanent don’t you think
This monolith was decorated on each side with mining scenes
Good healthy breakfast?
Montceau les mines. The market went for most of the waterfront
We had already had our breakfast in a Boulanger nearby but the smells were so good here that we did a spot of grazing
Genelard. Thé Qui on the left is called the Qui de Paris and two thirds of Paris’ paving stones were loaded here from a nearby quarry for the 20 day trip back to Paris. 30-40 barges a day passed through here per day

This was also an important crossing point from Occupied France to Vichy France in the south during WW2. The Bassin bridge

Palinges.

Just out of town after Palinges we came across the Chateau de Digoine.

I think the majority of visitors must be cyclists as it’s right on the EV 6 route
Really stunning! It was only €5/ head to roam the gardens
The girls are mentally planning projects for the guys to do
Paray le Monial
It’s got a nice Main Street where we’ll go and find something to eat soon

Tomorrow we will finally be following the Loire river and it will be time we started thinking about us heading back to Paris and leaving Sue and Michael to carry on west
