The National car museum

Although we have visited here before, there’s just no way you can absorb the enormity of this collection of vintage cars. The largest single collection in the world

First off let’s start with the first car commercially sold in the world in 1894. The Phaeton Thonneau. Boasting a 560cc 2cylinder engine, rear wheel drive, rim brakes and either left or right hand drive, depending on who grabs it first🤨 it was capable of a mind boggling 20k/hr
We then move into the Schlumpf memorial room with a few of the first cars he owned. The portrait on the back wall is of the Schlumpf brothers mother to whom they dedicated this museum. Note the boys pedal cars still in good condition
The car ,by the way is a 1904 Dufaux with the largest motor in the museum . Straight 8 and 12,700cc. It had a top speed of 140k/hr, unreal progress in just 10 years since the Phaeton Thonneau
Acres of the most diverse collection in the world
1889 ‘ Never Satisfied’ that’s its actual name. Fully electric with 2 motors ,it reached 100k/hr
Simulators, go cart tracks, all to entertain the kids while Dad drooled
Mind you there were dozens and dozens of the most amazing pedal cars for junior to drool over too

Every year they have an invitation exhibition where an outside group can show their collection. This year it was Prince Albert of Monaco’s collection

One entire pavilion is dedicated to racing cars over the years . Some donated but most of them bought by Schlumpf

Far too many to show

We needed a coffee break to recover from the senses overload and afterwards started in the Blue room where the Bugatti collection and the most expensive cars live

Mechanics, note the motor/gearbox , integrated casting on the 12 litre motor
Now how did this Lego car get in here.

We are getting around the city on the excellent tram system. Still haven’t worked out how to pay for it yet but so far so good. There’s a concert in the park not far from our apartment tonight so we’re off home for a nana nap

Now if you’re contemplating a career in begging, all the best ones have at least one dog,
