Domitz

What a beautiful day to wake up to. And not a breath of wind. We haven’t been able to find a place on Booking.com near where we would like to get to so have decided to wing it and hope for the best. All main streets are paved in these rough cobbles so the cyclists aim at the narrow strip beside them. Coming in to Cumlosen

That’s Schnackenburg over the river. It marks the southern end of the East /West border along the Elbe. Up to now we have been only in the old DDR ( east Germany) but for the next 150km the Elbe was the border.
Almost entirely on the top of the stopbank today or riding beside it if the surface was better. The wildflowers have been brilliant
The Lenzen boating club. Club rooms and cafe to the left and pontoon down the ramp. Advertising coffee but not until 11.00 AGAIN!
Right beside it , one of the many watchtowers along the border.
THEN AND NOW
The ferry crossing in 1988 where we are now

So from Schnackenburg until Lauenburg in a couple of days time ,we will be riding along the old border fence line. Enough to get you shot a few years ago

Whereas todays biggest problem is finding a coffee and strudel.
Which happened at Modlich
The houses are changing styles. Lots more thatched rooves
We arrived in Domitz about 1.30 and spotted this Pension straight away.

It’s beautiful ( and half the price of last night).

And once again, we’ve come across someone that had the foresight to collect the vintage motorbikes of the DDR era

He had several more! Ok ok I know I prattle on , but I do love vintage motorbikes
