Figueres 🇪🇸

The plan today was to head south to the coast at Argelès-sur-Mer,stay there the night then get the train around the end of the Pyrenees to Figueres. Nothing would fall into place , it’s still school holidays and people come from all over Europe to stay in that part of France so there were no vacancies or if there were they were fetching anything up to $1500 per night. Back up plan was, bike there anyway, if we couldn’t find a bed then take the train from there to Figueres. On checking the trains (this is all happening in the middle of the night ) there was only 2 running today and no room for bikes

Plan 3, get a train from Perpignan straight to Figueres

There was one leaving at 11am but no bike room . However if the bike was in a bag it could go free as luggage

Not a problem! I can dismantle them and have them bagged in about 20minutes

We had decided right from the start that we wouldn’t go over the pass with all its traffic, then we couldn’t go around them. Well this train does neither, it goes under them!

24 minutes later we had arrived ! We talked the whole way with Ramada and Marie then they helped us unload ( honeymooners)
Our train was on its way to Madrid but there was a slight delay here so we had the bikes back together and riding off before they’d even left
The back of the Dali theatre and museum. The ride from the train was through a really grotty area so our first impression was bad but once in the centre we loved it.
People queuing for the theatre. Everywhere there was strange art. I loved it

Another thing we’ve noticed is the price of food is cheaper. Two salad meals and 2 beers €9 .

Our bed for the night. The town was full of tourists so we were glad we booked this one early this morning.

It’s looking better now we’re away from the coast and we can’t wait to get biking again in the morning. Early.
