Bonaduz

Our hands are freezing. Luckily we bought gloves and warm hats with us.

Just out of Sedrun this Pyrenees mountain dog was sitting amongst his flock. His job is to stay with the sheep permanently to guard them from predators. He saw our flag and ran over barking madly. ( obviously thought we were Australians)The monastery of Disentis. A very popular place to stay and at $200 a night it must turn a nice profit. It’s been here since 700ad and is in great conditionup until 1880 it was only a donkey track up here until this engineering masterpiece was built. The roofs not to keep the horses dry. It’s to keep the weight of snow from crushing itThe bike route has been on the main road so far as it’s been so quiet. Here as we approach Ilanz it now follows country lanes. The road rises 100m up to Valendas . The Rhein passes through the Rheinschlucht for the next 20 kms ( a world heritage gorge ), so we have to go up and around the side.Carrera. It’s getting hot and that water is freezing. Lovely !after rising another 100m the road plunged down a ridiculously steep drop to cross a side stream. My brakes smelt HOT Then WOW 😲 It ran along a cliff on the edge of the gorge proper. It was STUNNING So here we are in Bonaduz , 75 kms further along the Rhein , watching the French open on TV. Only one hotel in town and we got the last room. Lucky !!
